National Women Physicians’ Day

Channel: Fox26 Houston
Aired On: February 03, 2016

February 3rd, 2016, marked the first National Women Physician’s Day. The date was chosen to honor Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman in the United States to receive a medical degree. Dr. Blackwell paved the way for future women to enter the medical field and contribute to saving lives on a daily basis.

As Dr. Mirwat Sami sees it, this day is about uniting all the different members of the medical community and celebrating the amazing achievements and progress women have made over the centuries. Hopefully, this day also serves as a sign to other women that they can pursue a career in the medical field and find the support the need in the community.

Dr. Sami is proud to be a part of the medical community and proud to be able to celebrate this momentous day. Check out the full video and interview to learn more.
