For Dr. Mirwat Sami, becoming an oculofacial plastic surgeon was a dream that she made come true. Her passion and dedication to the profession allowed her to excel and succeed in her field. One thing Dr. Sami noticed when she made it was the alarming lack of women in her profession.
Gender bias is an undeniable problem throughout multiple facets of society. Only 32% of all physicians in the U.S. are women, and while that number is steadily rising, the number of women in leadership positions within the medical community is still shockingly low.
In her interview with KPRC’s Khambrel Marshall, Dr. Mirwat Sami discusses the growing effort to bring equality to the medical field.
