Dr. Sami was featured on Fox 26 News Houston KRIV NBC with Denise Middleton (Anchor – Fox 26 News Houston) discussing “Summer Skin Care” – Aired May 18th, 2019 FOX 26 Houston KRIV Fox26, 4261 Southwest Freeway Houston, TX 77027.

Summer has kicked off and while we should be thinking about SPF all year round, the onset of the warmer season means sunscreen is going to be the front and center in our skin care routine. Protecting our skin from the sun should be a priority in order to prevent a number of harmful side effects, ranging from the development of dark spots to skin cancer.

Sunscreen is universally considered essential for skin health as it can help protect against skin cancer and prevent premature aging. Yet choosing a sunscreen can be confusing and the ingredients on the back label can often look like a foreign language! Analyzing the sunscreen ingredient list on a product can tell you how your sunscreen is protecting you and what ultraviolet and active agents are being used. Medical grade sunscreens are developed through clinical research and the amounts of active ingredients that are much higher than what over-the-counter products are legally able to contain. Medical grade products penetrate the skin better and deliver a higher concentration of active ingredients. Higher amounts of active ingredients equal better skin!

Dr. Mirwat Sami states, “I am seeing people every day with not only redness, aging, and sun spots but also skin cancer”. The summer season means hours enjoying time out in the sun, but we have to be aware of the damage UVA and UVB rays can cause. Dr. Sami expresses the importance of sun safety and why it is necessary to wear sunscreen on an everyday basis. Protecting your skin with a high-SPF sunscreen prevents the formation of wrinkles and lines and significantly reduces your risk of developing skin cancer.
The aging effects of UV radiation is so significant and after years of sun exposure it can lead to more irreversible situations. At Houston Oculofacial, Dr. Sami provides services to treat and target the damage from UVA and UVB using lasers, Botox, filler, and skin care products. Dr. Sami has fine-tuned her skills in cosmetic procedures that can help with resurfacing and rejuvenation. In some cases, surgery is warranted to turn back the hands of time.
